Early last week I was able to catch an advance screening of the Jason Reitman directed new pregnancy comedy (popular new genre) JUNO, and I wanted to take time to formally recommend the film in web log format. With that said, I recommend the film.
Some might need a few minutes to adjust to the rapid pacing of dialog (Stars Hallow minus the quasi-snobbiness) but once you get into the groove, Juno is hilarious. Ellen Page showcases her comedic chops and speaks with a witty fluidity that you sometimes wish you had. And of course Michael Cera turns in a wonderfully understated performance as Paulie Bleeker. The whole cast is great really, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, J.K. Simmons, and Allison Janney. As an indie cool kid targeted film (an unfortunate label; I hope it’s not over-championed by that crowd), the soundtrack features great songs from Kimya Dawson of Moldy Peaches fame (listen to “Anyone Else But You”).
Anyways, I’m not saying it’s the greatest movie ever or anything. I’m just saying that I enjoyed it very much and it’s quite nice and perhaps you should watch it. Go watch it. Thundercats are go.
